Here is my second dash cam video. Was going to save up some content and make a longer video but then I almost hit someone riding as bicycle on I40 (yes a high speed highway) who was practically invisible because he: A didn’t belong there. B: was wearing all dark clothing. C: the new police lights are freaking blinding and they were just ahead of the cyclist due to a construction zone. I know the video doesn’t look like to much but I’m not in a Miata. This is a loaded down wide as hell ProMaster any sudden movement at highway speeds are paints soiling events. I hope the cops arrested this person because way worse things could have happened to him and the many cars that likely swerved around him prior to me. Oh and threw in a bonus wrong way driver.

Wow. I think cyclists take too much crap, but seriously, don’t ride on Interstates. Especially don’t ride on interstates at night, wearing dark colors, on a bike with (as far as I can see) no lights. And if you are going to that, may as well stay in the closed lane unless construction actually forces you out.
Is there any plausible explanation here?

Guy who either recently lost their car or license and doesn’t know how to bike safely?

“dont ride on interstates”
not only is this a no brainer, I’m pretty sure its a law. I think the law also says no horses either

Maybe. If that’s the sort of decision making we get from him, I definitely don’t want him on the highway in a car either.

Yeah, I’m definitely used to no bicycles, mopeds, or horses signs at highway on ramps (they don’t have them here in Texas, but that doesn’t mean they are allowed).

Came across something like that a few years ago too, except there was not construction zone and there was no police. Just driving along at 65 mph, then “Holy crap a bike!” At least ride on the shoulder if you’re going to ride a bike on the highway. They always have dark clothing on too.

Not to mention expressways have minimum speeds and he was not doing 40mph.

I know that some states allow bicycle use on freeways, but I’m not familiar with the particulars of the necessary requirements. No way could minimum speed be one of those requirements.
Hypothetically, if it were legal here, some visibility aids would be helpful (if not downright mandatory). I’d also consider using the shoulder, if possible. Technically speaking, the construction zone wouldn’t be an option, though it looks appealing, safety-wise.

I just googled it for fun and found out Michigan recently raised its minimum freeway speed from 45 to 55. Probably has no effect on you, but dang thats quick for a minimum .

Actually, I’m a fellow SE Michigander. :)
Yeah, they raised that minimum a few years ago. I don’t remember exactly when, but it was sometime after they raised the speed limit on I696 from 65 to 70.
